Who doesn’t love a good flapjack? These are healthy, nutritious, gluten free, vegan and nut free - plus busy mum and dietitian approved!

I’ve loved baking since I was little—cakes, flapjacks, anything sweet and comforting really. And flapjacks? They’re one of the easiest things to make once you get going. The trickiest part, especially for busy families, is just finding the time and having all the right ingredients in one place.
As a dietitian, I often wince at the fat and sugar content in shop-bought versions—some are more dessert than snack! That’s what gave me the push to get back into baking them myself. And honestly, this healthier version has become a real winner in our house. It's tasty, wholesome, and still feels like a treat.
I’m sharing this as a fellow busy mum of two energetic boys. But professionally, I can also say these flapjacks tick a lot of boxes—they’re low in sugar, dairy-free, gluten-free, and packed with fruit, making them a great option for little tummies too.
When I wrote this, I had one super curious toddler and a baby just recovering from a rough patch of colic (and if you’ve been there, you know how tough that can be!). If you're going through it yourself and suspect diet might be playing a part, please don’t hesitate to get in touch—I'm always happy to help figure things out with you.
As for the recipe itself—it’s ideal for getting toddlers involved. With a bit of supervision, they love mashing the bananas and stirring everything together. It’s messy, fun, and actually useful in the kitchen—win-win!
See for yourself - perfect for little helpers! See below for my dietitian-approved: Ultimate Banana Flapjack Recipe for a healthy, tasty treat. Perfect for busy mums, dietitian-approved goodness!

I really hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do! It’s the perfect grab-and-go snack for busy mums—quick to make, and even better when little hands get involved. There’s something lovely about knowing your kids aren’t just enjoying baking with you, but also tucking into a super tasty, low-sugar flapjack that’s rich in fibre and includes at least one serving of fruit. Total win for everyone!

Toddler-Friendly Fruity Flapjacks
These naturally sweet, soft-textured flapjacks are perfect for little hands and growing tummies. Packed with fibre, fruit and no added refined sugar, they’re a great option for toddlers from 12 months and up (or earlier if appropriate for your child’s stage of weaning and chewing development).
Ingredients
150g rolled oats
1 tbsp date syrup (or honey, if preferred if 1 year plus)
75ml coconut oil (or margarine/butter)
1 ripe banana, mashed
75g raisins
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Method
Preheat the oven to 200°C (Gas Mark 5). Grease and line a small baking tin.
Melt the coconut oil and date syrup together over a low heat until fully combined.
Combine the oats in a large mixing bowl and pour over the melted mixture. Stir well to coat.
Add the raisins and cinnamon, mixing thoroughly.
Mash the banana and fold it into the mixture.
Spoon the mixture evenly into the prepared tin and press down gently with the back of a spoon.
Bake for approximately 20 minutes. To prevent the raisins from burning, consider covering the top with foil for the first half of the baking time.
Cool in the tin before slicing into squares.
Tips for Toddlers
These flapjacks are soft and chewy—ideal for toddlers learning to self-feed.
Cut into finger-sized bars for younger toddlers or small squares for older ones.
Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze individually for easy grab-and-go snacks.
For added variety, you can swap raisins for chopped dates, apricots, or a few blueberries.
